Chat GPT – The New Age of AI
A few months ago, back in December 2022, ChatGPT hit over a million users, becoming globally popular as the new face of AI development. The exponential growth of Chat GPT was evident as in January of this year, they reached over 100 million global users. Over 100% growth!!!
ChatGPT is essentially an AI system, where you can ask it questions varying from, ‘What colour do Manchester United play in’ to ‘Write me a blog post about the socio-economic issues in the third world’. The system will answer both in almost perfect detail.
In fact, for the purpose of this blog, I asked it to explain itself and its uses… here’s what it had to say:
‘ChatGPT is a large language model developed by OpenAI that is designed to simulate human conversation. It is an advanced form of artificial intelligence that uses natural language processing to understand and respond to text-based inputs from users.
ChatGPT is trained on a massive dataset of human language, including books, articles, and other written content. This allows it to understand the nuances of human speech and respond in a way that is both contextually relevant and grammatically correct.
The capabilities of ChatGPT make it a useful tool for a wide range of applications, including customer service, language translation, and even creative writing. Its ability to generate human-like responses means that it can be used to simulate human interaction in a variety of settings, making it an attractive option for businesses and individuals looking to streamline their communications or enhance their online presence.
Overall, ChatGPT is a powerful example of the potential of artificial intelligence to replicate and enhance human communication in ways that were once thought impossible. As the technology continues to advance, it is likely that we will see even more sophisticated language models that can further blur the lines between human and machine communication.’
So, hopefully, you now have more of an idea of the capabilities of the system.
The source of the exponential growth most certainly can largely be attributed to Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter; more known for his previous entrepreneurial ventures such as owning Tesla and SpaceX. He regularly advertised the capabilities on Twitter through the festive period, which clearly illustrates the capabilities of influencer marketing. Some brands have seen a 20% growth in their products and services due to utilising influencers in the past.
There are some worries for certain industries that it could begin to eliminate the need for certain jobs, as it can do things like write lines of code, create ideas for projects, and write blog posts. However, there are some inaccuracies that have been pointed out by experts with some of the answers they have created. So this clearly illustrates that there is no direct threat to people’s jobs yet… but the fact that it has only been a month, means there is plenty of room for development and growth and for the usefulness of the system to increase.
On the other hand, the system could be used as leverage to combine with the skills of expert employees, and have experts get the best out of the system to exponentially grow and smash targets. Such as generating twice the ideas during some creative block or providing prompts for project ideas or blog paragraphs. Or simply being a much better alternative to Google.
There are still some teething issues with the website. Sometimes, the site becomes overpopulated for hours on end, leaving users unable to access it. However, they have found a way to overcome this to benefit themselves financially. There is now a subscription service where you can spend 20 dollars a month to give yourself always guaranteed access to the site, provide you with faster server times, and give people priority access to new features.
So, in the end, ChatGPT offers an extremely valuable service for businesses, completely free of charge; to develop themselves in all aspects and areas, if used correctly. Do you think that this will grow even further and bigger, or will AI become aware and take over the world?
